Afternoon Sessions

Ghawazee - Jasmin

The Ghawazee were one of the most famous dancing tribes in Egypt. They flourished in Egyptian society in the 1700's until about 1834, when they were banished due to religious pressures. The tribes traveled from city to city, attending fairs and going to troupe camps. They danced and played instruments for a living and performed in the streets and at festive occasions like marriages and births. Theirs is an earthy dance with heavy, voluptuous movements. The Ghawazee have a unique style that differs from the Saidi and other folkloric dances. This workshop will introduce the shimmies, bumps, floor work and gestures that are typical Ghawazee. It includes fun combinations for soloists, duets and groups.

This session is appropriate for all levels of dancers and runs from 1:00pm-2:30pm.

Partners in Crime - Katie
imageedit_8_9453162953.png

Come and play in this fun workshop as we wind down for the weekend.  In this workshop, Katie will teach some new partner combos, lead change combos, and talk about how to take combos you know and make them more interesting in duets.  The combos studied can be used in multiple styles, but we will also look at the cues to incorporate these moves into tribal improv performances.  At the end, partners will create their own combos together.

This session is appropriate for all levels of dancers and runs from 9:30am-11:00am.
